Police in Aberdeen have launched a crackdown on anti-social driving around schools in the city.

The operation was carried out between Monday, 2 October, and Wednesday, 4 October, in Northfield and Springhill Road in response to concerns from residents.

Community Policing officers were assisted by Road Policing officers and around 20 motorists were warned and educated regarding their driving and a total of five drivers were reported for speeding. The highest speed recorded was 45mph in a 30mph limit.

PC Brenda Adam said: “Road safety and tackling road crime is a priority for us in the Northfield area. Through listening to our community we have addressed some of their concerns.

“Irresponsible driving around schools risks lives and will absolutely not be accepted. Our officers will continue to target those who engage in this and take action.

“Always drive carefully in and around schools and at a speed that is within the limits. You do not need to drive at the maximum speed permitted.

“Children going to and from school are not always highly visible so I am urging motorists to please take a little extra care.

“We will continue to focus on road safety issues and encourage anyone with concerns to report these to police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
