Fisherman dies after falling from vessel in North Sea

The body of a 45-year-old man was recovered off the coast of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday morning.

A fisherman has died are falling overboard on a fishing vessel off the coast of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire.

Crew on the boat raised the alarm with the coast guard shortly before 2am on Tuesday morning.

Search and rescue teams from Stonehaven, Aberdeen and as far as Inverness were sent to the scene, about four miles from the seaside town.

Several commercial vessels in the area also aided in the search.

A Police Spokesperson said:

"Around 3.15am on Tuesday 29 September 2020, police were called to a report of a man having fallen into the sea from a fishing vessel near Stonehaven. Emergency services attended and a 45 year old man was recovered from the sea and pronounced dead. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
