It's day 1 of a week of strike action by Aberdeen bus drivers, as a dispute over pay and conditions rumbles on.
The Unite union claims safety will be compromised because First staff being asked to work longer shifts.
North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald joined bus drivers on the picket line outside First Aberdeen’s bus station this morning.
He said:
“The changes to the bus drivers’ terms and conditions that have been unilaterally imposed by management will see their most loyal and long serving drivers being forced to do more while being paid less.
“The fact that the overwhelming majority of drivers voted in favour of strike action shows just how strongly they feel about the impact of these imposed changes.
“Drivers feel they have been left with no alternative but to strike because management of First Aberdeen have failed to engage with them in any meaningful way.
“The onus lies clearly with the management to get back round the table and avoid any further disruption stemming from the strike.”
The company says the contract changes are required.
