Firework lit in Torry close
It happened in Balnagask Wynd last night
A firework’s been set off in the communal landing of a block of flats in Torry.
An incident at Balnagask Wynd was reported to emergency services at around 6.15pm yesterday evening, Monday 30th October.
Torry Community Policing Team Sergeant Jon Spence said: "Thankfully no one was injured and only minor damage caused to the building. But the reality is the person who did this had no idea how the situation would develop and the consequences could have been fatal.
"The dangers associated with the misuse of fireworks in this way cannot be overstated and I can provide every assurance that enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible. I appeal for anyone with information to contact Police on 101 or, should they wish to remain anonymous, via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
He added: "As Bonfire night approaches I would remind those using fireworks to do so safely and legally. Keep them away from properties, trees, fences, bushes or vehicles and always stand a safe distance away when setting them off.
"Remember you must be over 18 to buy fireworks and that letting off a firework in a public place is an offence. You are also breaking the law if you let them off between 11pm - 7am, which is extended to midnight on Bonfire night. An organised display is the undoubtedly the best way to enjoy fireworks safely."
