Firefighters remain on the scene after a fire initially broke out at a Aberdeen recycling centre yesterday afternoon.

Multiple fire crews are tackling the blaze at the Altens recycling centre, which was first reported at 4:30pm.

Pictures on social media show plumes of smoke billowing from the base.

Facebook users also say smoke could be seen during the night.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson confirmed firefighters have been there since yesterday with various specialists vehicles mobilised to the scene.

They've also warned people nearby to be aware of widespread smoke.

In a post on Twitter, SFRS said: "SFRS crews continue to manage a significant fire at a recycling centre in Altens industrial estate, Aberdeen.

"If visiting the estate, please be aware of wide-spread smoke."

Scottish Water have also confirmed on Twitter some residents have no supply.

They said: "We're aware @fire_scot in the #AB12 #CoveBay area continuing to tackle a fire at the Recycling Plant.

"As the hydrants are in use, this is causing no water, low pressure & discoloured water to the surrounding streets."
