Finance Convenor Warns No Scottish Government Funding Means No AECC
Finance Convenor Willie Young tells Northsound unless the Scottish Government provides around £30 million worth of funding, plans for the AECC could be scrapped.
A top Aberdeen councillor says there can't be a new AECC without millions of pounds from the Scottish Government. Finance Convenor Willie Young says plans for the £185 million facility in Dyce could be under threat if the Scottish Government doesn't step in.
It's thought around £30 million is needed, in order for construction to start.
Scottish Enterprise – a public body arm of the Scottish Government gave £25m towards the SSE Hydro in Glasgow and also helped Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre.
A business case for the scheme had been due to go before councillors in December, but consideration of a report was delayed until March because officials were waiting for the results of a third-party assessment.
The facility, if it goes ahead, would replace the current conference centre, and would hold up to 15,000 people standing, have enhanced conference space and a four-star, 200-bedroom hotel.
