An Aberdeen University study has found that while dealing with rude people is a negative experience, it can also have positive effects.
The study interviewed various mental health professionals about the times they'd have rude interactions and how they'd reacted to them.
According to the study lead, Isabelle Harrison, many said they'd not taken rudeness personally and see it as a challenge to work out the reasoning behind it and remedy a solution.
She also found that these experiences can help individuals in developing their resilience and humor as well as strengthening relationships.
Harrison said:
"We don't want to encourage people to be rude, but we'd certainly say if you are experiencing rudeness - seeing it as a challenge could be quite positive for you."
"The way that people interpreted the rudeness is quite interesting, the majority of people interviewed said they'd acknowledged that fact the rudeness wasn't personal."
