Only 28 electric car charging points installed in the north-east last year

Nearly 400 were put in across Scotland

Conservative MSP Liam Kerr is calling on the Scottish Government to install more electrical vehicle charging points in the north-east after "another woeful under-delivery from the SNP".

Between 1st of June 2021 and 31st of May 2022, 395 new charging points were put in across the Scotland.

But the north-east is only home to 28 of those.

"Electric car owners in the north-east are being left stuck at the side of the road which is why the rollout of charging points must be faster not slower", said the regional MSP.

Mr Kerr added, "Many people across the region are still not confident enough to buy an electric vehicle due to the lack of charging facilities in their area while the ones that are in place are often broken."

The Scottish Government are targeting 30,000 new charging points by 2030.

However, Mr Kerr says that they're falling well short of that target.

"To only have 28 chargers installed across the north-east in the last year is another woeful under-delivery from the SNP.

"The Scottish Government needs to be installing around 4,000 a year across the country to meet its target but they are a million miles away from reaching the target they promised by 2030.

"At the current rate of progress, it could take around 45 years to get to the target of 30,000 chargers which is absolutely shambolic

"By failing to match their own ambitions, the SNP are missing another climate change target."

The SNP have been approached for a comment.
