An eight-year-old boy has been injured in a hit and run with a moped in Aberdeen.

It happened at about 4.30pm on Sunday, when police received a report that a child had been injured on Cornhill Terrace.

Police Scotland said: "An eight-year-old boy was found to have sustained injuries and was taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital by ambulance.

"The boy remains at hospital where he is being treated for injuries which are not life-threatening.''

Inspector Simon Reid of Police Scotland said: "The family of the injured child are aware and with him at hospital.

"I appeal to anybody who may have any information around the circumstances of this collision, particularly anyone who may have contacted emergency services shortly after the incident, to contact police on 101."

Reports on social media suggest the rider left the scene soon after the accident, but that hasn't been confirmed.

The police have been cracking down on motorbikes being driven dangerously in the Granite City.

At least 35 vehicles have been seized on the summer, and officers say there has been a 63% drop in complaints about nuisance motorbikes.
