The Queen's cousin the Duke of Kent has been discharged from hospital after being treated for a dislocated hip, Buckingham Palace has said.

The Queen's cousin the Duke of Kent has been discharged from hospital after being treated for a dislocated hip, Buckingham Palace has said.

It is understood the 79-year-old Duke suffered the injury while staying at the Queen's private Balmoral estate in Scotland and was taken to hospital yesterday.

Buckingham Palace said in an earlier statement that he was admitted yesterday to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he was successfully treated for a dislocated hip''.

The Duke, whose first name is Edward, undertakes a large number of royal engagements and is president of the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

He has presented trophies to Wimbledon champions.

He suffered a mild'' stroke in 2013.

The Duke is the son of Prince George, younger brother of King George VI and King Edward VIII.

He became the Duke of Kent at just six when his father died in a wartime flying accident in 1942.
