A driver has been jailed for more than 7 years - after his dangerous driving caused a police officer's leg to be amputated.
Alan Tait, 36, was behind the wheel when he crashed into Constable Ewen Simpson's Motorbike on the A95 near Mintlaw in October last year.
Chief Superintendent Campbell Thomson has issued the following statement: "Firstly I would like to thank the two women who came to Constable Ewan Simpson's assistance on October 27, 2015, and stayed with him, providing medical help and reassurance. There is no doubt that their actions potentially saved his life. "I would also like to commend my Police Officers and Police Staff who had to deal with the traumatic set of circumstances that morning and did so with the utmost sensitivity and professionalism. In addition, my thanks to Ewan's many colleagues - again both Police Officers and Police Staff - who continue to provide invaluable support and encouragement to him during this very difficult period. "Most importantly however, I want to commend Ewan for the courage and determination he has shown throughout this ordeal; from that fateful morning to his ongoing recovery, his bravery has shown no bounds. It's hard to imagine how any of us would deal with such adversity, however his immense courage, positive attitude and good humour is something all of us who have the good fortune to work with him have been inspired by. "Finally I would also wish to express my sincere thanks to his amazing family for their dignity and courage."
