Aberdeen Women overcame a sending off to beat Partick Thistle on a cold, wet night at Cormack Park, to put themselves within touching distance of the SWPL 1.

A Bayley Hutchison double helped Aberdeen see off fourth placed Partick Thistle, as Dons Men's Manager Stephen Glass watched on with coaching team Henry Apaloo and Scott Brown.

This despite the sending off of Captain Kelly Forrest for a last man challenge on the verge of half time - a decision that bemused the centre-back.

It gives the Dons the chance to seal not just promotion, but a second consecutive league title on Sunday.

They can do that against Dundee United, ironically the side they faced on the opening day of the campaign.

A dramatic comeback, finished by a late Eva Thomson winner, saw them through that day, but this time they'll have to travel to Tayside.

Only goal difference could stop the Dons securing promotion now, and a massive swing would be needed for that.

Co-Manager Emma Hunter said the result showed "great great character".

"We knew Partick Thistle had everything to play for there" she said.

Commenting on Glass, Brown and Apaloo watching on, Hunter said:

"It means a lot

"Stephen has been brilliant, he's actually phoned me a few times since he's come in.

"That's brilliant to see that, and I think the girls really appreciated that.

"That's what this club is about, it's one club."
