Hamilton Accies put a dent in Aberdeen Women's title ambitions in the SWPL 2 at a rainy Cormack Park on Sunday.

Despite the defeat, the Dons still have a three point lead at the summit of the second tier, with a game in hand over second placed Dundee United.

Partick Thistle and Accies both sit two points further back than that, with Thistle the next side to visit the granite city on Thursday evening.

The start to the game was fairly even, but Emma Hunter's side were undone by a long throw on the 14th minute, which evaded the defense and was tapped in by Gardiner to open the scoring.

The dons dominated the rest of the half, but were restricted to few chances, the league's top goalscorer Bayley Hutchison had a header cleared off the line after a melee, and Captain Kelly Forrest saw her own head held by the Accie's goalie.

It was at the break the rain started to set in, and despite continuing into the second period on top again, the Dons were undone by a piece of magic by Accies number 9 McGovern.

She collected the ball out wide and curled a fantastic effort into the top corner, leaving Dons goalie Gilmour with no chance.

With ten minutes to go, after a change in shape, Centre-back Jessice Broadrick manged to give her side hope, she strided forward before lashing a shot from distance in, via the crossbar, but the Reds couldn't find an equaliser.
