Demolition process of Shell Tullos site to begin next week
The oil giant believes there is a "real opportunity" to create a positive impact for the city from the site.
Shell's landmark building located in Tullos is set to begin demolition next week.
Employees at the Aberdeen site relocated to the Silver Fin offices on Union Street in February last year having been based at the Tullos site since 1973.
Shell UK said it has been considering options for future use of the site and believe there is a "real opportunity" to create a positive impact for the city.
Demolition contractors, Dem-Master have been appointed to carry out the works.
The process of removing the building will begin on February 26 and is expected to take around 12 months to complete.
A letter was sent out to local residents notifying them of the works.
It mentions exploring options with potential partners, including the city council, Scottish Enterprise and the Energy Transition Zone Limited, on how the Tullos site could be used to benefit the city.
A spokesperson for the company said: "Following our move into the city centre, we have been considering options for the future use of the Tullos site and believe there is a real opportunity to create a positive impact for the city from the site.
"To realise this vision we have established a working group with potential partners, including the city council, Scottish Enterprise and the Energy Transition Zone Limited, to explore options to identify how the rest of the Tullos site could be used to benefit the city.
"Removal of the existing office footprint is critical for this vision and on 26 February, Dem-Master, our selected contractor will mobilise to the site and begin this work soon after."
