Police are treating the death of a man as 'unexplained' following the discovery of a body last night in Aberdeenshire.

Officers discovered the body of a man during searches in the St Fergus area last night.

Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, the family of missing Crimond man Mark Russell, who had been missing since last month, have been informed.

A Police Scotland Spokesperson told Northsound News that "The death is currently being treated as unexplained."

Part of the A90 between Aberdeen and Fraserburgh was shut off to motorists, with diversions in place, for hours last night - and a period this afternoon (August 4)

Officers were carrying out investigations after the discovery.

Police had made several appeals via social media to trace 45-year-old Mr Russell, who had not been seen since the 24th of last month.

He had been known to the Crimond and Peterhead areas.
