Date set for Curry House murder trial nearly forty years on

A date’s been set for the trial of a man accused of murdering a popular curry house owner in Aberdeen nearly 40 years ago.

The body of 41-year-old Kazi Ahmed was found at a flat on the city's Rosemount Viaduct on October 10 1978.

He was well known locally as the manager of the Raj Dulal restaurant on Dee Street.

63-year-old Riasat Khan was arrested in connection with his death in Birmingham on 7th May 2016.

The trial will begin on the 23rd October at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Riasat Khan (63) is accused of killing Kazi Ahmad at a flat in Aberdeen on October 13 1978.

Prosecutors claim Khan tied the 41 year-old's hands behind his back and covered his head with an “item of clothing”.

It is then alleged Mr Ahmad was repeatedly struck on the neck and body with a knife as well as having money robbed from him.

Khan faces a separate accusation of stealing a kitchen knife on the same day from the Raj Dulal restaurant in Aberdeen.

Khan faced the allegations during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Claire Mitchell, defending, pled not guilty on his behalf.

Judge Lady Rae set a trial due to begin on October 23 in Edinburgh.

Khan had his bail continued meantime.
