More than 50 motorists have been stopped as part of an operation to target anti-social driving in the Northfield area.

Police targeted a number of streets including Marchburn Drive, Provost Rust Drive and Manor Avenue as part of Operation Cedar (Challenge Educate Detect and Reduce) on Tuesday, 2 May.

In total 21 people were warned about speeding with two people being formally dealt with. In addition two fixed penalties were also given for seat belt offences.

A range of other offences were detected including a driving licence offence, tyre defects, a lighting defect, driving with no insurance and means enquiry warrants. One person was also arrested in relation to drugs offences.

Sergeant Diane Colquhoun said: "The operation was carried out in response to concerns raised by the community particularly in relation to antisocial driving relating to motorcycles and speeding.

"Northfield is a residential area with many 30mph speed limits and the dangers of being involved in a collision while travelling at above 30mph increase significantly. With the summer approaching the roads will likely get even busier with additional road users such as cyclists and motorcyclists and motorists should be vigilant to this and drive accordingly. As part of Operation Cedar we are committed to educating drivers about their behaviour and will continue to deal with offenders robustly."
