Five more deaths reported from Covid-19 in Scotland

Five deaths have been registered since Friday from Covid-19 in Scotland, government statistics show.

A total of 2,447 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus, up from 2,442 on Friday.

New statistics show that 15,730 people have tested positive for the virus north of the border, up by 21 from 15,709 the previous day.

There are 983 people in hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid-19, a rise of 69 in 24 hours.

Of these patients, 20 were in intensive care, down by one from the previous day.

The number of care homes reporting a suspected case has also remained at its lowest point for almost a month, falling to 34% of all homes in Scotland compared to a peak of 45% on May 14, with a total of 63% of all homes having reported a suspected case during the pandemic.

A further 23 cases of suspected coronavirus was announced in Scottish care homes, taking the total to 6,333.

Total tests for Covid-19 carried out by NHS labs in Scotland also reached more than 4,000 for the first time in a week, with 4,323 being processed in the past 24 hours and a total of 214,476 being carried out since the onset of the pandemic.

However, the Scottish Government has said there is an available capacity for testing of more than 15,500.

Regional testing centres, run by the UK Government, also tested a further 1,413 people since Friday, taking the total tests carried out standing at over 75,000.
