Councillor Christian Allard, the Convener of the Capital Planning Committee, has labelled the Union Terrace Gardens (UTG) as a "huge problem".

The opening of the gardens has already been delayed, whilst they're also millions of pounds over budget.

"The previous administration decided to go ahead with a vast project, which is well over budget", said Cllr Allard.

"We have been in the administration since May, and I can tell you this is a huge problem.

"We have other things to talk about, food poverty and other, more important things."

UTG were set to undergo a 'soft opening' in April this year under the previous administration.

However, the controversial opening was cancelled due to "supply chain issues".

Cllr Allard refused to set a new date for the grand opening of UTG, jokingly adding that there wouldn't be anything like a "soft opening".

"We are working with the budget of the previous administration so we need to clean that up.

"UTG should have been finished a long time ago, unfortunately it's over budget and we have to deal with it.

"One thing I'm not going to do is give you a date for an opening, or for a 'soft opening'.

"I don't want any 'soft openings', that term 'soft opening' doesn't make any sense", joked Cllr Allard.

"It would be great if we could have it by the end of the year, but I don't want to make any confirmation of when it's going to happen before we know it's going to happen."
