City Council: SNP fall short of a majority despite gains; Labour overtake Tories
The Conservatives lost two seats whilst Labour gained two
Last updated 6th May 2022
Aberdeen Labour are now the second biggest party on the Aberdeen CIty Council after gaining two seats in the election.
The Scottish Conservatives lost two, whilst the Scottish National Party remain the largest in the region, although fell short of a majority.
The single transferable voting system makes it difficult for any party to achieve a majority, though there were hopes within the SNP that they could reach the 23 seats needed.
They were only able to get 20 though, albeit still a positive result having gained one.
The Scottish Greens missed out on their first seat on the council with Guy Ingerson losing out to Desmond Bouse of the Liberal Democrats at the 7th stage of counting.
