Our Charity Cash for Kids have today launched their annual coat appeal.

Every year they fund raise until they have enough money to meet every application for a jacket and warm winter clothing for kids across the North East.

In 2020 the Charity provided 1,780 Primark vouchers to allow families to buy £50 worth of jackets, hats and gloves.

How to donate

But the charity say with the combination of the pandemic and the oil and gas downturn they expect even more applications now.

Charity Manager Michelle Ferguson tells us:

"This year we expect that number to increase greatly.

"We are thinking we will need somewhere in the region of 90-95 thousand pounds.

"Which is a huge ask, we know that, but we would really like to get the vouchers out in October in the hope that the children have everything they need for the winter when it arrives."

Cash for Kids have kicked things off with what Michelle described as a "wonderful" donation from Oil and Gas firm Apache.

The Aberdeen based branch have put £25,000 towards the cause.

Joanna Pirie is Communications Specialist for Apache, she said they were delighted to help out once again:

"The cash for kids winter coat appeal is something that's really close to Apache's heart

"We were able to support it last year and are delighted to do it again.

"Our employees gave us so much feedback, they loved knowing we were helping the community, which is something our company is passionate about doing."
