Cat Left for Dead in Aberdeen Bin

Published 25th Jun 2015

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a cat was dumped in a bin and left for dead in Aberdeen.

Scotland's animal welfare charity was alerted after the feline was discovered within a plastic pet carrier inside a communal wheelie bin at Printfield Walk on Friday the 19th of June

The cat is now recovering in the care of the charity's Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Drumoak, where she has been named Mindy.

Centre manager Graeme Innes said, "Mindy was found when someone went to put rubbish in the bin.

"She is quite scared and defensive at the moment which is understandable given her terrible ordeal.

"This was a particularly cruel act which would have resulted in Mindy's death had she not been found.

"It is difficult to comprehend why anyone would do this to a defenceless animal.

"If anyone recognises Mindy and knows who may have done this we would urge them to contact us.

"We will look after Mindy until we can find her the loving new home she deserves."

Abandoning and causing an animal unnecessary suffering is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
