Nearly all of the workers on the AWPR employed by Carillion have been offered alternative employment on the project.

Economy Secretary Keith Brown, says 57 of the 63 staff employed by Carillion had transferred to Balfour Beatty or Galliford Try.

But there’s still no fixed date for the project to open, with the Economy Secretary saying the detail still needs “bottomed out”.

He said last month it would open in the springtime.

Mr Brown said:

“There is clearly much still to do, and weather will play a part in the final opening date, but it feels like the beginning of the home run towards completion.

“More details of the various milestones and key dates will be revealed in the weeks ahead, but I’m sure the community and workforce will play a pivotal role in the opening celebrations – and both groups are at the forefront of our thinking and initial planning."
