Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay has been signed by Liverpool on a five-year deal for £6.5m.

It has been reported Liverpool will pay an initial £4m up front, with a further £2.5m coming in the form of add-ons - a club record fee for Aberdeen.

The 18-year-old recently travelled to Liverpool to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical.

The Anfield club have no plans to send Ramsay on loan and he will join up with Jurgen Klopp's first team for pre-season.

Ramsay, who will wear the number 22 shirt for Liverpool, made 33 appearances for Aberdeen last season, scoring one goal and registering nine assists.

The full-back has made 39 appearances in total for the Scottish Premiership side and his performances earned him the SFWA Young Player of the Year Award in April.

The young player has experience in Europe through the Europa Conference League and has been capped three times by Scotland Under-21s.

Liverpool were 'locked in talks'

Liverpool had been in talks with the Dons over the move after making an initial £4m offer, with £2m in add-ons.

It is understood Aberdeen wanted at least £5m up front for the defender, with a further £5m in add-ons.

In January, Aberdeen rejected a bid from Bologna for the player, which was believed to be an £830,000 loan offer, with an obligation to buy for £3.3m.

Ramsay is Liverpool's third arrival this summer following £64m Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica and £5m Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho.

'Dream come true'

“I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really to be here,” Ramsay said.

“It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world, it’s a massive achievement and I’m looking forward to trying to show the fans what I’ve got.

“Hopefully I can come in in pre-season, show everyone at the club, the staff, players what I’ve got and then we’ll see what happens from there.”

'Promising young talent'

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin said: “There is no doubt this is an exciting opportunity for Calvin and his family.

"The AFC Youth Academy deserves a huge amount of credit for developing Calvin and it is testament to the pathway here at the Club that Calvin was given his debut in the first team, and not only that, was able to hold his own in the team last season.

“Liverpool are very lucky, they are getting a promising young talent.

"His stats in the first half of last season were amongst the top for full backs in the world. We certainly had high hopes for him and I’ve no doubt he will go from strength to strength in a very good team at Liverpool.”
