Buses were allowed back on Union Street from Thursday, so why were none running?

The area was confirmed as open just after lunchtime on Thursday

"Uncertainty" over when buses were allowed back on central Union Street meant that no services ran in the area yesterday, despite it re-opening.

The formerly-pedestrianised zone was open from about lunchtime yesterday, although Stagecoach decided against running in that area until Friday.

Bus stops between Market Street and Broad Street were not in operation and were diverting customers to other stops.

Managing Director of Stagecoach Bluebird, Peter Knight, said: "There has been some uncertainty around the exact opening time and it was confirmed as 'open' just after lunchtime today.

"From a customer and colleague perspective, the right thing to do is to make changes to our routes at the beginning of our operational day to ensure that we deliver a reliable service to our customers."

Mr Knight did confirm that Stagecoach buses will be in operation on central Union Street from Friday.
