North East firm BrewDog say they still want to open a "craft beer hotel" in Aberdeenshire, despite turning their attention to America.

They've announced plans for a similar development in Columbus, Ohio - where they've just opened the doors of their new facility.

The plans were unveiled back in 2015.

Since then, the brewers have been trying to purchase land in their hometown of Ellon to build a hotel.

They've gone public with their disappointment at the value of the land - saying the local authority quoted them a price of "£300,000 an acre".

It's claimed that is 60 times the value that an independent surveyor quoted to them.

Aberdeenshire Council said at the time that their price was accurate and that they would not sell the land below value, as they look to build a cemetery there.

They say the independent surveyor quoted a price for agricultural use, rather than a commercial value.

A BrewDog blog post said: "You may well have read about our recent attempts to build a BrewDog hotel near our Ellon brewery in Aberdeenshire (which we are still hopeful of getting over the line).

"We have already kicked off the design process for The DogHouse Columbus and the features of the hotel and rooms are being dialled in as we speak.

"We are going all out to make The DogHouse the best beer-oriented hotel in the world."
