Brewdog has opened its latest round of customer fundraising which bosses say will make it the biggest crowdfunded business of all time.

The craft brewery, founded in Aberdeenshire a decade ago, is looking to raise a further £10 million to support the expansion of its Ellon brewery and develop a first sour beer facility.

This latest round of 'Equity for Punks' crowdfunding is to run for an initial three months with around 420,000 shares up for sale to be sold in pairs for £47.50.

Any funds raised above the initial target will be used to support the opening of new breweries in Asia and Australia and around 15 new bars in the UK.

The company has grown from two employees to around 800 and has opened around 30 bars across the UK and 15 more around the world including Helsinki, Tokyo, Rome and Sao Paulo.

Crowdfunding has raised £41 million for Brewdog since 2009.

Co-founder James Watt said: “The latest round of Equity for Punks will make us the biggest equity crowdfunded business of all time, having already raised over £41 million from a community of tens of thousands of misfits, forging a new kind of business model founded on craft, community and conscience.

“Our Equity Punk investors haven't just supported the growth of an organisation now valued at over £1 billion, they have inspired the creation of a model that will give away 20% of its profits to its team and charitable causes via our pioneering 'Unicorn Fund'."
