Biker dies on Aberdeenshire road as police appeal for witnesses

The 61-year-old man was on the B966 Fettercairn to Edzell road when the tragedy happened

A motorcyclist has died after crashing in Aberdeenshire last night – leading to a major police appeal for information.

The incident happened around 6.10pm on the B966 Fettercairn to Edzell road at Cairnton of Balbegno and involved a blue and white Suzuki GSXR 750 motorcycle.

Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist, a 59-year-old man, was pronounced dead. His next of kin are aware.

The road was closed and re-opened around 10 past 1 this morning.

Sergeant Dave Cooper said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and an investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen what happened or have dash-cam footage that could help.”
