WATCH: Beach tragedy family backs Cash For Kids through new firm
Daniel Dawson is using profits from his new business, Balmoral Blinds, to support the charity
The family affected by the Aberdeen beach tragedy have given their backing to Cash For Kids.
Daniel Dawson, 25, lost his sister Julie and nephew Lucas in the Aberdeen beach tragedy back in August 2016.
Former Health and Safety worker Daniel ended up sleeping in a summerhouse while arrangements were made to allow two of Julie's surviving children Jordan and Sam to move in with their grandparents.
Local housebuilders CALA Homes stepped in to extend their home, meaning there was enough space for all six of the family members living there at the time.
Daniel is now a Director at Balmoral Blinds, a blind cleaning company he founded alongside his dad Keith after both were made redundant because of the North Sea slump.
Daniel said "It was devastating because it couldn't have come at a worse time.
"For them to do everything did for nothing, just to help, to be honest I feel like I could do more.
"I had already lost my job a year previous and was wanting to get on.
"I want to do more and help in the future, not just with the 500 faces.
"Then obviously we lost Julie and Lucas. To then, two or three weeks after that, to be punched in the face and be told you've got no that is keeping a roof over our heads it put us into panic mode. We didn't know what else to do."
While establishing themselves in the North East, the firm is now donating a share of its profits to the Cash For Kids 500 Faces campaign.
Daniel added: "Cash For Kids did the renovation with no hesitation whatsoever, from everyone who was on the board that decided to convert the house and everything like that.
"They didn't need to do it. There's was no requirement for any of the kindness that was ever put our way."
