The police are investigating an attempted fire-raising at Dyce Police station.

It happened at 7:20am, and a silver volkswagen was spotted in the area at the time.

The emergency services managed to put out the blaze before there was any damage.

Dyce School next door is closed today while officers look into what happened.

The incident's being attacked by local MSP Mark McDonald, whose daughter goes to the primary. He said:

"Given the proximity of the police station to both the community centre and the local school, we could have been looking at significant consequences from this action. Especially as it appears to have occurred not long before many children would have been arriving to start the school day.

"It is a credit to the police and fire services that they responded so quickly to this incident, and I am sure that the local community will recognise the importance of ensuring public safety and the need to gather evidence that has led to the school being closed."
