Fire crews are still battling a major blaze at a recycling centre, after initially being called out on Friday afternoon.

Smoke has been pillowing from the Altens facility for more than 40 hours, as the day shift fire officers have now taken over from the night-shift staff.

Three appliances are currently in attendance, after water supply was effected due to the blaze.

Wide-spread smoke

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews from the likes of Aberdeen, Stonehaven and even Dundee have been trying to extinguish the flames.

Yesterday, they published a warning about wide-spread smoke.

The SFRS said: "Crews continue to manage a significant fire at a recycling centre in Altens industrial estate, Aberdeen.

"If visiting the estate, please be aware of wide-spread smoke."

Scottish Water also confirmed at around 9:30 yesterday morning that some residents were cut off from supply.

In a tweet, they said: "We're aware @fire_scot in the #AB12 #CoveBay area continuing to tackle a fire at the Recycling Plant.

"As the hydrants are in use, this is causing no water, low pressure & discoloured water to the surrounding streets."
