Aberdeenshire School Mackie Academy have reported their new sensory garden has been vandalised over the weekend.

The Stonehaven school had just received funding from Aberdeenshire Council and planned to improve the garden in the coming weeks.

In a post to parents and carers the school's Head Teacher Louise Moir said:

"Over the weekend the shipping container that we have was attempted to be broken into resulting in the door being severely damaged.

"Items had also been stacked up alongside and a fire had been lit against the container."

Police say they have received a report from the school, but cannot comment further on the nature of the report until they meet with School officials.

Miss Moir continued:

"There is no excuse for such behaviours and especially when the work that is being done is to the benefit of the community."

They've asked anyone with any information to pass it on to the Police.

Vincent Docherty, Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Education, said: “The recent vandalism at Mackie Academy is totally unacceptable. A sensory garden should be a place of tranquillity for the pupils who use it, so it is shocking to hear it has been damaged by callous vandals. Anyone who has information about instances of vandalism should contact the police.”
