Aberdeenshire Council are pushing ahead with the restoration of Ballater's Old Royal Station.

It was badly damaged in a fire last year - just months before floods devastated the town.

It was originally built in 1866 and the Royal Family were among those who used it when it was still a railway station.

It's more recently been home to shops and the Visit Scotland information centre.

Some of the most historic parts of the building - inlcuding the waiting room - escaped the worst of the damage.

The repairs are expected to cost £3 million and work could start later this year.

It's seen as key to the recovery of the town's tourism sector.
