An Ellon woman is looking to become a motor racing superstar after entering the 'Formula Woman' competition.

Emma Dawson has entered the contest which sees women with little or no motor racing experience compete for the chance to become a racer.

Emma will take part in race assessments and track days as she looks to earn a place in the final stages.

The eventual winning contestants will bag themselves a chance to enter the 2022 GT Cup Championship in a fully sponsored Mclaren 720s GT4 car.

Whilst Emma regards herself as a racing novice, her love of cars runs deep.

She told Northsound:

"I've been into cars since I was little, I was brought up around cars.

"Every Summer holidays I'd go to my Grandad's garage in Arbroath, he actually built and raced in hill climbs around Scotland."

The 34-year-old says she thinks the contest is a fantastic way to contribute to the growing area of women's motorsports.

She said:

"I think it's great, it's introducing women to the motorsport industry.

"Alongside Formula 1 this year they are running the W series, and again it's giving women drivers the opportunity to compete at a similar level as the men.

"This year is the first time they are racing on the same tracks as well, so it's just highlighting the profile of women in racing."

Emma has recruited a number of local businesses who are helping her in her efforts by sponsoring her.

This includes Kirkton Motor Body in Banchory, DH Automotive based in Falkirk, Newmacher's Customised coatings, MB Garage services & motorsport in Tipperty and Demon Tweaks.
