Aberdeenshire council cuts being considered to tackle £35m deficit

Aberdeenshire council is warning it will have to find more than £17m in savings.
Reducing roads maintenance, scrapping school crossing patrols and closing vacant posts are just some of the suggestions being made.
The measures, listed in a report issued ahead of the council’s budget meeting, are to help tackle a deficit of £35m.
Officials have listed policy changes in council tax and business rates, transformation of the council’s operations and a £7m reduction in borrowing for capital spending projects to find money across the local authority.
The report does suggest Aberdeenshire’s budget could be balanced without using up reserves.
Councillors will set the budget for the year ahead on February 22.
