Aberdeen University has unveiled new ground-breaking equipment which could lead to further exploration and production of oil in the North Sea.
The High Pressue Rock Deformation Apparatus, which is worth £500,000, has been funded by the Oil and Gas Innovation Centre.
It is able to drill to unreachable parts of the North Sea, and could lead to brand new oil and gas discoveries.
Experts believe that one third of the North Sea's total oil resources remain untouched. However, the price of oil currently sits at around $30 a barrel - making it unprofitable for many oil firms.
