Aberdeen universities investigating secret "brohood" snapchat group
Last updated 6th Feb 2019
An Aberdeen student's exposed a secret Snapchat group claiming to share pictures of female students at both Granite City universities.
Some students received messages inviting them to 'join the brohood' - telling them to 'respect the bro code' and keep the group a secret.
The police are suggesting to Northsound News that no report has been made to them yet.
"I find it really disgusting. I actually can't believe people would do that. I really think Snapchat or the universities should do something about it. "
North East student Sarah is calling for the universities to take action:
"I find it really disgusting. I actually can't believe people would do that. I really think Snapchat or the universities should do something about it.
"The universities should somehow stunt their studies, or affect their education there. It's not fair they should do that to someone and then carry on their lives as normal when someone else's life is probably heavily impacted because they've shared those images."
We’ve spoken to both universities about the claims.
"We have been made aware of this situation and will assist the authorities in any investigation. "
A University of Aberdeen spokesperson said: “The University strongly condemns the material that we have been made aware is circulating on social media. We would urge anyone who has been affected to get in touch with our Student Advice & Support team, where confidential professional advice and support is available in person, by phone or online.”
A spokesperson for Robert Gordon University said: “We have been made aware of this situation and will assist the authorities in any investigation. Respectfulness is a key element of RGU’s culture and the university does not condone this behaviour. There are a number of support services available to any of our students who may have been affected.”
