Marischal College will light up in Ukrainian colours for the next week in solidarity with people in Ukraine.

It follows an emergency motion by the Lord Provost and was agreed at a meeting of the Full Council this morning.

The motion, which was agreed unanimously by all members, agreed that Aberdeen City Council will back support for Ukrainian Independence.

The motion said the Russian invasion of Ukraine was an unprovoked and an 'unjustified attack on Ukraine.'

Aberdeen City Council says it's thoughts and prayers are with the Ukrainian people right across the globe.

The Lord Provost is to write on behalf of the people of Aberdeen to the Russian Ambassador in London condemning the actions of his government for its unprovoked and unjustified attack on Ukraine.

The Full Council meeting heard the Lord Provost took down the Belarus flag in the Town House at the weekend, and Aberdeen City Council will also look at the relationship with Gomel.
