Aberdeen were held to a goaless draw in their final pre-season friendly, as they played host to St Johnstone at Cormack Park.

The Dons started with a strong line-up. Scott Brown, Lewis Ferguson and Christian Ramirez were involved from the start.

New loan signing Teddy Jenks was one of those used off the bench, but there was no game time for former Motherwell Captain, and Scotland player, Declan Gallagher. He was an unused substitute.

This game was brought forward to the earlier kick-off time of 1:30pm after Stephen Glass saw his plans of a double header scuppered.

Initial plans were to host English side Reading in the early part of the day, with another Dons XI lining up against Callum Davidson's men later in the evening.

But three Covid positives in the Championship team's camp meant that was called off.

That was another blow for Glass, as it meant half of Aberdeen's four pre-season games were scrapped. A match-up with Cove Rangers was cancelled a couple of weeks back, also due to Covid.

The earlier kick-off time meant several water breaks for the players in scorching conditions.

A report on the club's website says the hosts dominated large spells of the game, and were perhaps unlucky not to come away with a win.

Speaking to RedTV, Scott Brown said:

"I thought the lads worked extremely hard, it was what we were after, trying to get 90 minutes in as many people's legs as possible.

"It was good for the lads to get out there, to work hard, and especially in that heat as well."

On the performance he said:

"It was a good performance, it was a hard performance but we dictated the play and we had the best chances overall."

The choices in line-up for the game might give away some hints as to the team next week when the Dons face Swedish side BK Hacken in a UEFA Conference League qualifier.

The starting XI for the hosts was as follows: Joe Lewis, Ross McCrorie, Andrew Considine, Scott Brown, Christian Ramirez, Ryan Hedges, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Funso King-Ojo, Jonny Hayes, Lewis Ferguson, Jack Gurr.

The starters remained on the pitch until mid-way through the second half.

Jack MacKenzie, Connor McLennan, Teddy Jenks, Calvin Ramsay all got on after the 2nd period's water break.
