Aberdeen's newly refurbished science centre has been awarded a five-star quality assurance award from Scotland's lead tourism body, Visit Scotland.

It becomes only the second visitor attraction in the city to be given the maximum rating, after the Gordon Highlander Museum.

The facility only re-opened in November 2020 after undergoing a £6 million refurbishment, though it quickly had to close its doors when restrictions were brought back into place during the Covid pandemic.

"To achieve five star visitor attraction status, through such adversity with the restrictions that have been in place, I think is it's a pure testament to everything that that we've tried to do here ", said the centre's Chief Executive Bryan Snelling.

He added, "Without the restrictions, who knows what we could do in the future?

"It's (the award) not just about the facility either, it's about the staff, it's the visitor experience that people get when they come here.

"And I'm really, really pleased that Visit Scotland have recognised the full package that visitors will get when they arrive."

The centre has six interactive sections: energy, space, life sciences, make it, test it and an under-six area.

Visit Scotland's Director of Industry and Destination Development, Rob Dickson, says their quality assurance scheme helps tourism attraction across he country "raise the bar" in order to gain such an award.

"Our Quality Assurance scheme helps us drive up standards across the industry, raising the bar.

"Our Stars represent world class excellence – helping businesses shine, enabling visitors to make informed choices and driving up investment in quality.”
