Aberdeen Could Return to the Age of Steam
Could we see Flying Scotsman back in Aberdeen?
More than £298,000 of lottery money is to be spent restoring a rare locomotive turntable in Ferryhill, dating back to 1907.
It's needed to turn round steam engines, because they can't travel for long in reverse.
We still get one or two chartered steam trains in Aberdeen a year, but they need to go all the way to Inverness to turn.
It's hoped this investment will encourage regular locomotives to the North East.
It'll also be spent on an adjoining railway shed at the site near Duthie Park, and it's hoped a small museum can also be set up.
