Aberdeen residents locked out homes after police cordon off area

An area in Aberdeen has been locked down after the discovery of a "potentially suspicious package".

Emergency services have closed roads around Lemon Place after receiving a report around 1.40pm.

The public are being asked to avoid the area and enquiries are ongoing.

Northsound News has also been speaking to locals in the area who are not able to return home.

Barbara, who lives nearby, left to go shopping but is stuck outside the cordon.

Speaking to our reporter, Barbara said: "I nipped to the shops and I thought 'when I get back, I'll get in', but they said they weren't letting anyone through.

"They said I could walk to the sports village but I said I'd rather wait.

I've been waiting around 45 minutes."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services are in attendance at Lemon Place, Aberdeen following a report of a potentially suspicious package being found around 1.40pm.

“A cordon has been put in place and roads in the surrounding area have been closed.

“The public is asked to avoid the area.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
