On Friday 12th August, the final shortlist for the UK host city for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest was revealed, with Aberdeen not selected.

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the 66th song contest earlier this year in Italy, with the UK's Sam Ryder finishing a close second, but the European Broadcast Union (EBU) quickly confirmed that Ukraine would be unable to host the contest, passing the baton to the UK.

Where is shortlisted to host Eurovision 2023?

20 UK cities submitted a bid to host the event, the only Scottish city to make the cut was Glasgow. Other cities shortlisted were Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.

Aberdeen's bid to host Eurovision 2023

Speaking on Twitter, Eurovision fanatic and Aberdeen Central MSP Kevin Stewart said: "It is extremely disappointing that Aberdeen has been excluded from the shortlist. We have the newest venue, with an international airport right next door and we are a welcoming city.

"The BBC know that we can host big events & it’s a real shame that they have chosen to forget us."

When is Eurovision 2023?

The event is expected to take place in May next year.

When will the host city for Eurovision 2023 be revealed?

A winner will be announced in Autumn.
