Aberdeen City Council have cancelled its Hogmanay street party.

The New Year celebration was set to be held on Schoolhill, but the local authority say it's no longer going ahead on public safety grounds.

It follows the Scottish Government announcing a host of new Covid rules, aimed at slowing the spread of the Omicron variant.

A release from the Council said:

"Aberdeen City Council regrets to announce that this year’s Hogmanay Street Party has been cancelled.

"Steps had been taken to ensure that this event would be able to continue safely, however due to rising Covid-19 cases and in response to the latest Scottish Government rules, the event will no longer go ahead on public safety grounds."
