A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a teenage girl in the Byron Crescent area of Aberdeen on Monday afternoon.

Detectives said yesterday the 16-year-old was "not seriously injured" in Northfield.

She escaped her alleged attacker with the help of nearby residents who heard the child's screams and chased a man away.

Earlier in the day the girl had boarded the Number 12 bus service in the city centre at 16:37 outside His Majesty’s Theatre before heading to Northfield.

She left the bus at Provost Rust Drive and began her walk home.

Detective Inspector David Howieson told Northsound News: "The girl was fortunately not seriously injured, however is understandably shaken by what happened.

"I would like to thank those who contacted Police in connection with this incident - your assistance has been valuable."
