Aberdeen football coach says first words after horror crash in Malta
Simon Morrison was in a coma after the tour bus accident earlier this month
An Aberdeen youth football coach has said his first words in hospital after a horrific accident on a family holiday in Malta.
44-year-old Simon Morrison was on a tour bus when the driver lost control and crashed into a tree on Monday 9th April.
Two people died in the crash in the southern town of Zurrieq.
Mark McCready from Middlefield Wasps said in a statement: “We can’t thank everyone enough for their messages for Simon. He got flown back to Aberdeen on Saturday from Malta. So at least his family are by his side now. I went up to hospital to see him last night. He was sticking his tongue out at me and winking. He still had tubes to assist his breathing. He was kicking legs about aswell.
“As of tonight he now has tubes removed and breathing on his own which is amazing news. He talked tonight aswell. Still a long recovery period for him and family.
“I will be going up next week to see him again and to show him all the kind messages to give him a boost.
“He is a fighter. Again thank you for all the messages and to everyone who has donated to our just giving page.”
This comes just eighteen months after tragedy hit Middlefield Wasps. Another coach at the club, Kieran Innes, was killed when his car left the A90 and crashed into field.
