Aberdeen Cyrenians Forced To Cut Back On Services

Published 3rd Jul 2015

Homeless charity, Aberdeen Cyrenians, has been forced to cut back on their services after missing out on vital funding.

The charity runs a drop in service on Summer Street, which helps provide over 200 people a week with essentials such as food, clothing and bedding.

Aberdeen Cyrenians has seen a threefold increase in demand in the last 18 months, due to the difficulty faced in the oil industry.

In April, the charity launched a fundraising campaign to hopefully gather ÂŁ100,000, in order to keep the centre open. But only just over ÂŁ50,000 has been raised, which is still not enough.

Current funding by the National Lottery Fund ran out at the end of June, and the charity have failed to secure any more.

Now the service say they have made the "difficult decision to run on reduced hours for the next six months".
