Aberdeen Cyrenians Appeal For Help

Published 24th Sep 2015

Homeless charity, Aberdeen Cyrenians, is sending out an appeal for help, as their donations drop drastically.

The charity supports 200 men and women living on the streets a week, by offering them items such as sleeping bags and clothes, as well as providing counselling and hot meals.

Aberdeen Cyrenians began in 1968 as a soup kitchen run in the city’s Castlegate. Organised by students from Aberdeen University, this service provided basic food to a growing number of people, but grew as demand continued to rise.

Back in July, the lifeline service was saved, by receiving £78,000 worth of donations and pledges, which will help the centre stay open until April 2016.

The problem arised after National Lottery funding ended earlier this year.
