Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Douglas Lumsden has revealed he is one of around 450 people who are taking part in a NHS Grampian Covid-19 vaccine trial.

He will get his first injection today.

NHS Grampian said had been "overwhelmed" by how many people offered to get involved, and how quickly they did it. Well over 1500 people put their name forward.

Councillor Lumsden said:

"It all started from a note I'd seen on social media looking for volunteers to come forward"

"I thought I'd put my name forward as I think anyone who can do their bit should."

"I'll either get a vaccine or I'll get the placebo, then I'll go back in three weeks time for a further injection - and then I'll be monitored over the following year."

"To be honest I'm actually slightly nervous about today, but it's quite clear the only way out of this situation we are in right now is with a vaccine."
