Aberdeen City Council To Announce How Many Refugees Will Come To The City

An Aberdeen City Council taskforce will meet at the Town House this morning to discuss how many refugees the local authority can resettle within the city.

The city council has come under increasing pressure to do more to help those fleeing conflict in Syria.

Last week Council Leader, Jenny Laing, confirmed that the local authority are open to accepting migrants, but a secure plan would need to be prepared.

The city council will meet this morning to establish just how many of the hundreds of thousands of refugees travelling across Europe, Aberdeen can support.

UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, announced that the UK target for re-homing refugees was 20,000 - which would mean the arrival of 400 every month.

Aberdeenshire Council have also pledged to support the cause.
